LYC SWIMMING POOL RULES AND REGULATIONS, for 2007

The LYC Pool Facility is a “Swim At Your Own Risk” Pool. There will NOT be a lifeguard on duty at all times, therefore Swimming is at Your Own Risk!

These rules and regulations are for the benefit and protection of all members and are meant to assure a safe and sanitary operation of the swimming pool facilities. The LYC Pool Committee supervises the management of the swimming pool.

The pool will be operated in accordance with the bylaws of the Lewes Yacht Club and the regulations of the Delaware Fire Marshal and the Delaware Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission.

As of January 1, 2004 the pool has been registered in the State of Delaware as a private pool.

As of September 1, 2004 the Lewes Yacht Club is a non-smoking facility. The only designated smoking area is out in front of the LYC Club House. You can check with the Pool Manager or Lifeguards for the location of the designated smoking area.


RESPONSIBILITY OF POOL STAFF

The LYC Pool Committee supervises the entire Pool Operation. The pool staff reports directly and only to the Pool Committee Chairperson(s). It will be the duty of the Pool Staff (manager, swim team coaches, instructors, and lifeguards.) to operate and maintain the pool and all of its facilities in a clean and efficient manner.

  • The Pool Staff will be responsible for swimming lessons, swim team, and aquacise programs.
  • The Pool Staff will be responsible for controlling access to the pool area as well as the sanitation and safety of the pool. Lifeguards will be readily recognized by their uniforms which will be worn only when on duty.
  • The Pool Staff is responsible to enforce the rules and have the authority to discipline any person whose behavior is unsatisfactory within the pool facility.
  • The Pool Manager or Lifeguard on duty shall have the authority to determine under what circumstances the pool will be cleared of all swimmers.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERS

  • Members and guests are expected to obey the rules and regulations for the LYC Pool and cooperate with the Pool Staff at all times.
  • No member or guest will be admitted to the pool facility without first signing in at the gate and presenting their LYC membership card.
  • The Lewes Yacht Club will not be responsible for the loss or damage to personal property.
  • Parents are responsible for the conduct of their children using the pool facilities. Lifeguards are not baby-sitters.
  • Members, who have employed a non-member to take care of their minor children, are permitted to have such person bring their children to the pool without paying a guest fee.
  • All children under 12 years of age, must be accompanied by an adult. Any child 12 to 15 years, NOT accompanied by an adult, must pass a swimming test administered by the Pool manager or a lifeguard indicating that they can swim two lengths of the pool without the assistance of a flotation device.
  • Vandalism of any kind or poor behavior may result in suspension or loss of pool privileges.
  • NO ONE is allowed to swim alone. A lifeguard or a monitor must be in attendance. It is strictly prohibited to use the pool when the pool is closed.


POOL HOURS

The yearly schedule of swimming times as well as any changes will be posted in the following locations:

  1. The swimming pool opens Memorial Day weekend and continues weekends only until the local public school is finished (mid-June). It is then open 7 days per week through Labor Day (see #2). Pool hours may vary, but master schedule includes the following:
    • Lap swimming 6:30 am – 9am, 7 days per week
    • Aquacise 8am – 9am, 7 days per week
    • Swim Team 9am – 12 noon, Mon -Fri, June and July
    • Open swim (with lap lanes) Noon – 7pm, 7 days per week

  2. In mid-August it will be determined if the pool will offer “off season” hours after Labor Day and will be posted at the sites listed above.

  3. During swim team practice only swim team members may be in the pool.

  4. There will be lap lanes available for our lap swimmers at all times except during swim team practice or special events.

  5. Members are welcome to use the pool deck for tanning and lounging, but may not swim in the pool when there are aquacise lessons, designated lap swimming, swim team practices and scheduled swim meets.

  6. The Pool Committee may change or revise the established pool schedule.

GUEST PRIVILEGES

  1. By LYC Rules, no member may entertain more than 8 (eight) guests at any one time and no individual may be a guest more than 6 (six) times in a season.

  2. A guest must be accompanied by the sponsoring member upon entering the pool area. A sponsoring member may be the child of a member 12 years of age or older.

  3. Children under 12 years of age may not bring guests to the LYC Pool.

  4. When bringing a guest, the LYC member should sign in name and number and write in the guest’s name. Guest fees are paid to the monitor or Pool manager upon entering the pool facility.

  5. Members are responsible for the conduct of all persons admitted to the pool facilities as their guests. All guests are subject to the rules and regulations of the Lewes Yacht Club.

  6. A member must pay $4.00 admission at the gate for each guest. Guests under two years of age are free.

  7. A guest is anyone who is not the immediate family of a member. This includes dependent children under the age of 30, and grandchildren of a member under the age of 16 that are living under the grandparent’s roof.
  8. Any member may purchase a booklet of 10 guest passes for $35.00 which entitles him/her to 10 guest entries or acquacise classes. Passbooks may be purchased at the pool office from the Pool Manager or a Lifeguard.

RULES FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY

These rules will be strictly enforced with no exceptions. The Lifeguard on duty will have full authority to enforce these rules. Violation of these rules after a Lifeguard’s warning could result in suspension or revocation of club privileges.

  1. To help keep the pool clean, any one with suntan lotion or oil on their body must shower before entering the pool. Any one with sand on their feet or body must rinse the sand off before entering the pool or the bathroom showers. DO NOT RINSE SAND OFF IN THE INSIDE SHOWERS. There are several hoses on the pool deck and a faucet out side the back gate.

  2. All children under 12 years of age must be directly under the supervision of an adult (16 years or older) at all times regardless of swimming ability. Children 12 to 15 years, who have passed the previously mentioned designated water safety test given by the Pool Staff, may use the pool facility, unsupervised.

  3. The wading pool is restricted to children 7 years of age and younger. All children using the wading pool must be under the supervision of an adult (16 years or older) who is inside the wading pool enclosure. Pool Staff are not responsible for the wading pool. This area is not guarded!

  4. All babies must wear swim diapers while swimming in both the main pool or wading pool.

  5. No glass or breakable containers are allowed anywhere in the pool facility at anytime.

  6. No running, pushing , wrestling, skate boarding, roller blading, ball playing, or
    other disturbances will be permitted in the Pool Facility.

  7. At the discretion of the pool staff, admission to the pool shall be refused to anyone with open cuts, skin abrasions, colds, coughs, inflamed eyes, infections, or wearing bandages.

  8. All personal injuries that occur in the pool or on the pool deck, regardless of how slight, must be reported to the lifeguard on duty immediately. The Lifeguard will then report such incident to the Pool Manager and fill out a pool accident report.

  9. Only one person is allowed on the diving board at a time.

  10. Only one bounce is allowed on the diving board.

  11. NO outside “personal water accessories” are allowed in the pool. ONLY NOODLES, KICK BOARDS and SMALL floating aids such as children’s life preservers, arm floats and life rings.

  12. All toys must be approved by the Lifeguard’s discretion prior to use.

  13. NO BALLS, SMALL TOYS, FRISBEES or objects, of any kind that can be thrown WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE WATER OR ON THE POOL DECK.

  14. An appeal regarding any decisions of the Pool Manager may be made to the Chairman of the LYC Pool Committee or her designee.


FOOD AND DRINK

  1. No food may be present or consumed on the pool deck. The adjacent patio is specified as a food area.

  2. No alcoholic beverages, except those purchased from the Club, are allowed to be brought into the pool area.. You can bring in juice drinks, bottled water, sodas, Gatorade or other sports drinks in non glass containers.

  3. Members are to place all trash in the provided trash cans.

  4. Persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be denied entrance to or be expelled from the pool area. Members are advised to be responsible in regard to excessive drinking

SWIMMING LESSONS

  1. Swimming lessons will be taught by the pool staff under the supervision and coordination of the Pool Manager.

  2. Private lessons are for members only. Lessons are only to be taught by designated instructors. No one else, member or non-member, is allowed to give a swimming lesson for a fee without being a designated instructor by the Pool Chairman or Pool Manager.

  3. The fee for a lesson is $30 per half-hour with all fees paid directly to LYC not the instructor. For more information, please contact the Pool Manager between the hours of 7am and 12 noon at 645-8506.

AQUACISE CLASSES

Aquacise classes cost $4.00 cash or one guest pass for members. Non-members will be charged $ 6.00 cash only.

SWIM TEAM

The Lewes Yacht Club is a member of the Delmarva Swim Association. Swim Team members must register and are responsible for all fees and costs associated with being on the Team.

  1. All children, members or not, are eligible to participate on the Swim Team. The costs for Swim Team for members & non-members are different & are established by the Board of Directors.

  2. Swim Team Practice is exclusively for Swim Team members. No one else is allowed in the pool during Swim Team practice or meets.

  3. All non-members (unless a paid guest for that day), participating on the Swim Team, must vacate the premises immediately following practices or meets.

FEES for 2007

LYC member, first child $ 55.00. Second child $ 45.00.
Nonmember, first child $ 105.00. Second child $ 80.00.
