Richard Martin

|
Richard Martin
Age 70
Resident of Lewes for 28 years.
Recently married to Peggy Martin.
Member of LYC since 1981
Seeking election to the office of Vice Commodore
I dine at the LYC frequently each week. I am a boater using marina facilities and the clubhouse. I believe we have exceptional restaurant management, staff, and food.
Work background: Engineering and Contract Management with Federal Government and Space Industry, also a past ISO 9000 auditor.
I am now retired from Fed. Government Agency but work part time as a dock master at the LYC marina.
Past positions held with LYC: Commodore 1990 and 1991.
Past Chairman of the House Committee; Marina Committee; Finance Committee; and Long Range Planning Committee.
LYC representative to Delaware Dept. of Natural Resources and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for Marina Operations Manual, and permits for contracting for spoil removal with dredging contractors.
LYC Representative to Service Energy Co. for marina fuel storage tanks and environmental requirements mandated by Dept. of Natural Resources.
Initiated contacts with Acoustical Engineering firms to improve the acoustics of the LYC dining room. On behalf of the LYC, I contracted with the firm that performed the installation of the acoustical materials and acted as LYC representative from beginning to end of the contract.
Have also served, or am now active, on the following committees: House, Marina, Long Range, Finance, Building, Nominating, Election, and Bar Committee.
Volunteer service; assisted in the building, or installation of, clubhouse glass racks in the bars, Burgee boards, sailboat racks and sail boxes, swimming pool steps, repair of Sailing School Boston Whaler, and floating docks at marina. Performed underwater maintenance at marina and in the swimming pool. Assist with John Sarik’s Lasagna dinners and chicken barbecue. I have donated and prepared fish and clams and assisted with the marina picnic since it’s inception. I assist any entity of the club when asked.
The LYC, in recent years, seems to have evolved as an organization that solves financial shortcomings by bringing in more members, therefore more initiation fees and dues, rather than improve spending methods by careful selection of contractors and reduction of costs through better utilization of utilities and personnel. We also need to optimize secure investment of our liquid assets. I hope to be of assistance improving the financial condition of the club.
Thank you,
Richard Martin

I am running for re-election as Vice Commodore.
My wife Marjorie and I have been full time residents in Lewes since 1998. We have been members of the Lewes Yacht Club since 1997.
As a retired Nephrologist, my medical practice experiences included holding many positions that involved “Chairing” a variety of critical hospital and practice committees over the years.
I have been a member of the Board of Directors for six years and have served this past year as Vice Commodore. Since 2002, I have served as the Membership Chairman during which time our Committee has initiated the Senior Memberships, developed the LYC Directory, vastly improved the New Members Orientation event, been involved with significantly improving communication for the membership through both the Newsletter and the Web Site and has initiated the new Membership Outreach program which will I hope will result in more of our membership feeling that they are a part of the Lewes Yacht Club community. I was intimately involved with the construction of the new Clubhouse as one of the committee of three members who served as “the eyes” of the Lewes Yacht Club by being on-site every day of the fifteen month construction period. I have served on the Bylaws, Building, Nominating, Long Range Planning and Maintenance Committees. Currently, I also serve on the Finance and House Committees.
The past five years have been marked by several major challenges for the LYC, each of which was successfully resolved. Nonetheless, the future holds additional challenges for our Club, including such issues as the need for adequate storage areas, stabilizing LYC’s financial status and upgrading our aged Marina, to name but a few. I would like to remain actively involved in a leadership role, addressing these and other issues as they occur in the coming years.
I believe the experiences of my professional practice, of serving on multiple LYC committees, of chairing the Membership Committee and my service on the Board of Directors give me a unique capacity to continue to serve as Vice Commodore. I would appreciate your support, and your vote.

As a life long member of the LYC, I have been involved at some point with all aspects of the club. I have witnessed all the changes and most have benefited the well being of the club. I am interested in having a membership who uses the facilities and makes lasting friendships in doing so. Each morning I teach water aerobics, chair the Sailing Committee and serve on the House Committee. For five years I served as your Commodore. I am running for the Board of Directors so that I can continue to work for you.

Kathleen (Kathy) O’Hanlon
The Lewes Yacht Club has been a part of my life since I was a teenager. It is my second home for I am there almost every day enjoying the pool, the dining room and many of the activities offered by the club throughout the year. Over the many years I have been involved in the club by sailing, helping with events, serving on race committees for major regattas and being a member of the Pool Committee for the past 4 years. This year, I sub-chaired for the pool committee the successful personnel search and hiring of a new pool manager and swim team coach. I am employed by the Cape Henlopen District as the Title One/HOSTS Coordinator Program for Shields Elementary. I hold a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Education. I am running for the Board of Directors because I would like to foster the sailing traditions of the yacht club, to keep the club affordable and to make it a fun, pleasurable place for the membership.

Catherine Pando
I am Catherine Welton Pando. I was born in Connecticut were I lived until my mid twenties when I moved to Maryland. While in Maryland I married and started a family, Subsequently we moved to Rehoboth in 1997.
I am a Registered Nurse, currently working as an infusion nurse in my husband’s rheumatology practice. We have three children: Oriana 11, Keegan 8 and Fiona 4.
My work experience has always been centered around people. I worked through college as a certified lifeguard, water aerobics and swimming instructor. I have also worked in food service, as my family owned a restaurant and catering business.
My personal interests are in Yoga, holistic treatment modalities, kayaking, swimming and traveling. Currently I am a LYC pool committee member and am an active member at LYC, since becoming members 4 years ago. Our 3 children swim at the LYC swim team.
I would hope to see in the LYC future a successful and graceful adjustment to new demands made on our club as we are growing every year. I would like all members to feel that their opinions(s) are important and can be heard. I envision more club activities for those with young families as well as more adult oriented activities (something for everyone!!)
As a relatively new member at the LYC, I certainly appreciate coming to such a wonderful, family oriented historic Lewes establishment. I do also understand the need for active dialogue between the life long and newer members.
Change can be difficult and good communication will be the key for moving the club forward in harmony. I would like to become a board member at LYC to be part of the changes and serve our membership.

William Reardon

Bill Reardon.
As 50- year member, I hold a lifelong interest in the success and improvement of our Yacht Club. I served as Commodore for 5 years, Vice Commodore, member of the board in the 80’s and the past 3 years, and was Chairman of the Tall Ships of Delaware for Governor DuPont.
At this time, I have several important and innovative ideas for the organization’s future. In particular, I hope to contribute to the success of our sailing and swimming programs so that we can continue to provide experience for our children and young people.
Please vote for me for the Board.

Barbara S. Warnell
I am a Lewes resident and owner of a sunfish and two kayaks. A graduate of Pratt Institute with a BFA in Interior - Environmental Design and self-employed since 1974. Until recently my office was on second street above, the sometimes all too tempting, King’s Ice Cream.
Current and past board experience include Lewes Yacht Club, Shawnee Country Club, Lewes Presbyterian Church (session), Lewes Chamber of Commerce (past president and vice-president), Delaware Art Museum (trustee), Rehoboth Art League, Sussex County Arts Council and the Delaware State Arts Council. Major volunteer projects include co-chair of the Lewes Historic Preservation Guidelines, Chair of the Rehoboth Art League Building and Grounds Committee, LHS Antique Show and LPC Stewardship and Endowment Chair.
I have been a member of the Lewes Yacht Club since 2001 and a board member since 2004. I was a very active member of the Interior Design Committee during the construction of the new building and installation of furnishings. I have continued to be available to both the maintenance committee and house committee for interior and building related items and I chaired the nominating committee in 2006.
LYC will continue to adjust to it's new facility, the growing and diverse membership and the expanding activities. Therefore it is important that the composition of the board reflect both the diversity of the members and the necessary skills to manage a private club of this size. The LYC Board is also charged to develop long range plans for the future while at the same time preserving the past history and traditions of the LYC for future generations.
Serving as a board member of the LYC has been both rewarding and a privilege. I hope to be able to continue that service for another term and would appreciate your support.
